  The New Brochure - What are they thinking?

  let me just start off by saying that my mother asked me to read the new brochure.

  she said, "i expect you will be critical of it.".

  i said, "mercilessly so.

  I would suggest that the important part of the brochure is to realize that the borg uses no part of accepted christianity to relate members to.

  Therefore it is a convoluted and bastardized literature designed to keep members believing that their peculiar brand of religion is unique and relevant.

  Note that such nonsense is only relevant to members. "where else would we go"? applies here.

  It must be terribly difficult for the largely uneducated heirarchy to crank out interesting topics. Of whom would they borrow from? Only their own rehashed version of truth. Of course it gets repeaditive and confusing.

  It is like trying to make macaroni and cheese interesting. I can change the shape of the pasta, or flavors of cheese, but soon it becomes the same ol, same ol. Now imagine that mac and cheese is all I offer to my followers (who are convinced that I am the SOLE PROVIDER of food.

  As a follower of my mac and cheese religion, you are obligated to eat only my food (other offerings are maggot infested,AKA worldly and satanic).

  You will tire of my fare, you will see the same thing over and over, you will get bored. You will depend on my cuisine to such an extent however, that you will accept the food as usual and deny that other versions are distinct. They are only new light versions of the real mac and cheese.

  My theory is that most of us discover steak is tasty, that the maggots are only imaginary. That there is a smorgasboard of grand buffets out there from which we may imbibe.

  Sadly, some will continue to choke down that nasty mac and cheese, regardless of the stale taste and boredom. More sadly is that those who choose this particular fare believe that nothing better exists.

  Steve Irwin attempts to justify feeding croc with baby in hand.....

  i know we've probably all seen the footage of steve irwin feeding a croc.

  while holding his baby in his hands 6 months ago.

  now he is trying to say that it is the angle the camera was at.

  Well, it seems logical to me that if one makes his or her living based on public persona that you are both the recipient of fame and the victim of such fame.

  You cant live forever in the public eye enjoying the bounty of spin without having it come back on you soon or later.

  Such is the price of celebrity. I am sure the millions they make can stand up to some criticism when the celebrity makes an ass of themselves.

  i am sincerely of the opinion that we need to recognize that this board is quite different from most internet boards.

  i do not belong to other groups and i cannot say i know every one else's rules, but i do know that jws and exjws are of a different breed.

  we have been battered and abused in so many ways as jws.

  No I was not quoting him verbatim, rather his ideas.

  I was thinking along the lines of actors who become famous and thus their children, not because acting ability is passed along by gentetics but that some believe fame begets fame.

  To wit, Marlon Brando's son is a nobody, Judy Garlands daughter is, until Judy died and Liza lossed her base.

  You cannot pass on your talent by way of dna is my point. Do some succeed? yes, but they never measure up to the original. The ones that do end up fighting for their own identity and worth and do not want to be seen as an extention of their parents.

  Dear Cica,

  Yeah, I am getting that alot "too young to be a grandma". LOL

  I kinda feel young to be a granny myself, but elated and ready for the task. I hope I am good at being such. I hope to be connected and relevant as a grandparent. I had the best grandparents in the world, and if I am half as good at it, I will be loved.

  I can't wait to take him fishing, boat riding, horse-back riding, etc. Surely it is a time of adjustment as I still have growing children at home. He should fit right in since I still am active and engaged in raising kids.

  I hope he likes me, I hope he thinks I am cool and that he wants to spend time with me!

  i guess i'm asking in more of a business aspect?

  or in any kind of dealings with them.....for example, because of their morals honesty is "supposed" to be practiced.

  would you hire one because of this?

  I have never known two jw's to be alike contrary to the wt stating the unity thing. Some are most trustworthy that I would depend on, and some are pit vipers and manipulative.

  Ones religion has nothing to do with charactor IMO. I am no more impressed with ones religion on a business or personal level than I am Impressed on race or gender.

  As Martin Luther King said, I long to see when such does not matter, but the content of ones charactor.

  Thanks for the update on this, I remember the controversy.

  What bothers me the most is that Steve is apparently trying to define his childrens future.

  "I like wild creatures and the media and thus you will too".

  Nothing wrong with being proud of our kids, but they should be allowed the right to decide for themselves what their interests are.

  have any of you ever had your child (or know of a child) who decided to experiment with foreign objects and how they may or may not fit into bodily orifices?!

  well, today, my child did!

  since today is "no tv sunday," my son was bored to tears, as he is every sunday when we will not allow him to watch the television.

  I am the tallest female in our family. Tall and thin by our family standards (take after my mom). My dad's side of the family is short and stocky. Very stocky. My eldest nephew is a bull-dozer!

  My kids are all tall thin noodles. Who can account for genetics? LOL

  We all look alike in the face features, but different in build. My youngest daughter is almost 12 and is often mistaken for an 8 year old. LOL. (boy, does that make her mad)!

  My youngest son tipped the scales at birth. 9 pounds 12 oz. He is 16 now, and a walking string bean. Same with me. I was 10 pounds 3 oz, and only now getting some curves.
